As a rule, metals and their alloys solidify crystalline. However, under very special alloying und cooling conditions, a glassy amorphous solidification can occur.

This glassy amorphous microstructure exhibits very specific chemical and physical material properties. These excellent magnetic properties are of particular interest to the electronics industry. Furthermore, metallic glasses are characterised by high solidity and high corrosion resistance.

Within the framework of an EU-wide research project, for the first time it was possible to manufacture glassy metals on ferrous-based materials with complex geometry and high surface reproduction accuracy. The basis for this was BREUCKANN’s development of a special die-casting machine for Bulk Metallic Glasses (BMGs).
